The International Seminar 2025: European Union and Latin America and the Caribbean – Opportunities and challenges of the IV EU-CELAC Summit was held

The Jean Monnet Module “EUnLAC: from Brussels to Buenos Aires” of the Austral University, in cooperation with the Jean Monnet Chair EU2LAC of the University of Udine, carried out the International Seminar 2025 “European Union and Latin America and the Caribbean: Opportunities and challenges of the IV EU-CELAC Summit”, which took place on September 4 and 23 at the Cerrito headquarters of the Austral University (CABA).

The meeting brought together renowned academics, experts and researchers from Europe and Latin America, who discussed with diplomats the present and future of the bi-regional partnership on the eve of the IV EU-CELAC Summit to be held on November 9 and 10, 2025 in Santa Marta, Colombia.

Among the exhibitors, the following stood out:

  • José Antonio Sanahuja, Professor of International Relations at the Complutense University of Madrid.

  • Ana Barrera, Director of Programs at the EU-LAC Foundation.

  • Héctor Casanueva, Coordinator of the Chair of Strategic Foresight and International Relations at the University of Chile and Vice President FAP ALC-UE.

  • Régis Dandoy, Jean Monnet Professor at the University of San Francisco de Quito.

  • Gian Luca Gardini, Jean Monnet Professor at the University of Udine.

  • Researchers from institutions such as the University of Cambridge, Egmont Institute (Belgium), University of Castilla La Mancha, National University of La Plata, University of Salvador and Austral University.

The Seminar included keynote addresses, expert panels, and presentations by national and international researchers. As a result of the sessions, a report with recommendations and observations was prepared, which was discussed on September 23 during the follow-up and closing meeting with academic and diplomatic authorities. This report will be sent to various institutions, such as the EU-LAC Foundation, to inform the next summit.

In this way, the International Seminar is consolidated as a reference space for academic and diplomatic dialogue on the shared challenges between Europe and Latin America, at a decisive moment for bi-regional cooperation.
